Irises by Vincent Van Gogh (1890)

Van Gogh was very poor. So poor, that his friends would buy him a bunch of flowers weekly as a painting subject. I like this story, since it shows that poor and possibly crazy as Vincent was, he still had friends who cared about him. Even though he never sold a painting during his lifetime. Even though he was a failure, by the standards of the everyday world. He had friends, they supported him in specific and important ways. Clearly, then, he wasn’t a failure.
