This is one of the most adult films about romance ever. And by “adult” I don’t mean pornography or XXX or even nudity.
I mean an adult, grown-up, not-high-school-tragic-The CW romance.
This is the 1968 version starring Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen–obviously. McQueen even smiles in this! Wow.
The style is fantastic, but the “chess game” of love/sex/theft is beautifully played.
It is a very, very hot film… with two stars at the top of their game.
The story is the same: Thomas Crown (McQueen), a millionaire playboy, pulls off the “perfect crime” by robbing a bank. Dunaway is the insurance investigator who tries to uncover the crime and Crown… and they start an affair. He plans another crime to test her love…
When I was a teenager, I didn’t get the sophistication of this film, or the intrigue of the love story. Thank goodness, now I do.
